Because of the beauty of the surrounding landscapes, the town of Crespina has been characterized by the presence of large villas since the end of the Eighteenth century.  The following century, other new and beautiful villas were added and were made famous by the presence of painters and artists such as Giovanni Battista Tempesti, Silvestro Lega and Giovanni Fattori, exponents of the Macchiaioli movement.
